Marketing platforms produce an endless supply of numbers, but only a handful of them tell you whether a campaign is working. Good measurement starts with deciding what success looks like before you launch.
Start with the business goal
Connect each campaign to a business outcome, such as qualified leads, sales, or booked calls. If a metric does not relate to that outcome, it should not be your headline number.
Choose a small set of KPIs
Pick the few measures that reflect progress toward your goal. For a lead-generation campaign, those might be conversion rate, cost per lead, and the percentage of leads that turn out to be qualified.
Set up tracking before launch
Make sure conversions are tracked accurately and tested. Tag your campaign links so you can see which sources drive results. Fixing tracking after launch means losing data you cannot recover.
Look beyond last click
Customers often interact with several channels before they convert. A last-click report can undervalue the channels that introduced them to you, so consider the whole journey when you judge performance.
Compare fairly
Compare results against your own baseline and the same period in previous years where seasonality matters. Give campaigns enough time and enough data before drawing conclusions.
Turn data into decisions
A report is only useful if it changes what you do next. For every review, ask what happened, why it happened, and what you will do differently as a result.
